Darks sentenced to 60 years in prison for murder
Quentin Levander Darks, 27, of Austin pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 60 years in prison by a District judge for the murder of D’Metra Strait according to a press release from the office of District Attorney Robert Lassman. Sentencing took place at the DeWitt County Courthouse on Monday, May 15.
The Strait family told Darks of the pains they have suffered after the Christmas day murder, according to the press release.
Darks was originally arrested on Dec. 25, 2016 for murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and endangering a child. Previously Darks was convicted of assault family violence and drug possession in Travis County.
Under Texas law, Darks must now serve a minimum of 30 years before he may be considered for parole. Reid Manning, the felony prosecutor on the case, gave high praise to the Cuero Police Department and DeWitt County Sheriff’s Department for its professional police work.
