DeWitt Count sex offender sentenced to 35 years in prison

Jasciel Campos, 31, of Cuero, Texas, pled guilty and was sentenced to 35 years in prison for Aggravated Sexual Assault to a Child by the Honorable Jack M. Marr. Aggravated Sexual Assault to a child is considered an aggravated crime to the Texas Board of Pardons & Parole, which means that the defendant will have to serve a minimum of one-half (1/2) of his sentence before he is even eligible for parole.

The Defendant was a relative of the young victim, who was 10-years-old when the sexual assaults began.

“Our young victim bravely reached out to her mother, who reported it to law enforcement,” District Attorney Rob Lassmann said. “Through the cooperation of multiple state agencies, [Campos] will be unable to harm any other children for years to come and will be incarcerated until our young victim is well into her adult years, as well as her younger siblings.”

This sentence also allowed for Campos to be punished without having to traumatize the victim by having her testify in a trial.

“We would like to extend our sincere appreciation to the hard work of the Cuero Police Department, Child Protective Services and Norma’s House Child Advocacy Center in Gonzales, Texas,” Lassmann said. “We would not be able to seek justice on behalf of these brave children without each and every one of these agencies.”
