Additional work on a plan for the sheriff’s office to police Yorktown, restoration of DeWitt County Museum and affordable housing topped Monday’s County Commissioner’s meeting at the courthouse.

Negotiations are ongoing between DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office and City of Yorktown for deputies to take over police duties in that city.

Sheriff Carl Bowen told county officials he has an estimate of cost for deputies to take over law enforcement duties in Yorktown. It was suggested that the cost to Yorktown would be about $25,000 a month.

The court gave a consensus approval to Bowen’s plan. It was explained that Yorktown City Council was scheduled to meet Monday night to review the agreement. If approved by both governing bodies, the agreement could become effective within the next two months.
