Gridiron gang gets fit

This past Saturday, the Yorktown Youth Football League held a day of conditioning and agility exercises for the players, and a cheer camp for the cheerleaders. Close to a hundred kids took part and were coached through tackling drills, ball carrying, sprints, and other exercises on the football side, while the cheerleaders learned cheers, jumps, and techniques from older, experienced volunteers.

Parents braved the heat as well, encircling the field next to Yorktown Manor to watch their youngsters enjoy themselves. While some setup canopies or took respite in their vehicles with the air conditioning, many sat in the open sun and enjoyed the fellowship of a mutual endeavor.

While temperatures were evident through the sweat-soaked shirts adorning almost everyone in attendance, the heat was no match for the smiles and excitement expressed by the children as they ran through the drills with a passion. The News-View staff would like to thank the volunteers who came out to coach the youth and handle the registrations, and the parents who allow their children to chase a dream. These individuals are what comes together to make Yorktown such a wonderful community to call home.

YYFL would also like to remind everyone that registration is now open to children as young as four years old, and will be extended until June 15. It’s not too late to register for football for the coming season, so go to the Yorktown Youth Football League page on Facebook to contact them for more details.
