Pirates Earn Two Home Victories

The Nordheim Pirates returned home this past week for their first home games since Dec. 10. On Tuesday night, Jan. 7, the Pirates faced the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs. Junior Deric Torres, settled the Pirates in right away with an early three-pointer on their first possession.
Nordheim would close out the first quarter on a 12-0 run to give them an early 19-6 lead.
The Pirates would keep their double-digit lead heading into halftime, up 30-18. The third quarter featured a lot of scoring from both teams; 31 total points were scored.
Nixon would get within 10 points at the five-minute mark in the third quarter, but on the next Pirates possession, a Torres three-pointer would spark an 8-0 run. Late in the fourth quarter, Nixon fought their way back into the game. Nine straight points by the Mustangs would get them within six points with just two minutes remaining.
Junior Marcus Farmer would come away with a huge bucket to end the momentum for Nixon, and seal the victory for Nordheim by defeating Nixon-Smiley, 51-46. Deric Torres led the Pirates in scoring for the night with 15 points.
Marcus Farmer had 11 points, while senior Jakob Denton added 10 points.
